Excessive Heat Bus Loading Protocol

The Effingham County School district will be implementing various strategies for bus departure during days when temperatures are excessively high. The following actions are prescribed:

  1. Bottled water will be allowed on school buses (no other types of drinks).
  2. Traffic on Nease Rd. and Hwy. 30 will be held when buses are released to facilitate departure.
  3. If a bus has to be held for more than a few minutes in excessive heat, the students will be off-loaded to a shaded area under an awning or into an air-conditioned area.
  4. Inclement weather loading procedures will be implemented at elementary schools to facilitate loading and departure.

Our goal is to have buses loaded safely and to depart as quickly as possible when excessive heat conditions are present.
